Congratulations to Tera!

Most of you who read this know Tera.  But, if you don't know, Tera has been studying interior design and finished the course with flying colors.  Woohoo!

Tera and I have known each other forever it seems.  She and my youngest sister(#4) are the same age.  Tera was the maid of honor at her wedding 11 years ago.

I just have to say that Tera is one of the best people I know.  She is kind, sweet, talented, and strives every day to be the person God wants her to be.  I don't know anyone who has anything bad to say about her.

Congratulations Tera!!!  I love ya!!!!

And........anytime you feel the need to practice your interior design skills just head on over to my place!  hehehaha

Some Sad News

Well, I'm sure most of you will not think this is sad in the least.  And.....when I really stop and think about it it's not SAD, just a little sad.

George Strait is winding down his career.  The press conference was held yesterday.  He announced 2 more years of touring which will consist of 20 dates each year.  He said he will continue to make records.  That is really what I was wanting.  I don't get to concerts much anyway so that part doesn't affect me much.   I told my sister the night before the press conference that I didn't care if he never toured again, but I'd like to hear new music from George for a little while longer.  I've known this was coming.  It's just reality!

The press conference was streamed live from the Country Music Hall of Fame.  I set the alarm on my phone so I wouldn't forget.  I got to the website where they were playing some "vintage" George while the preparations were being made.  I felt sick to my stomach and felt like I was going to cry.  I sent a text to my sis-in-law and told her Ruby and I were perched by the computer waiting for George to talk.  She replied that she was felt sick to her stomach.  At least I wasn't the only one!

So, by the time the actual announcement came around, Ruby and Rosy were running around like little banchees throwing toys everywhere and screaming their sweet little heads off!  I just tried to ignore it and make sure neither of them got hurt.  When George said he wasn't really "retiring" just yet I felt like jumping up and down!  He said he'd go on making records til he didn't want to anymore.  Like I said before......I'm good with that!

Please don't judge me.  Please don't think I'm toooooo rediculous.  Please just let me have this moment.  George Strait doesn't know me and never will.  But his music has meant a lot to me since I was 12.  It's a longevity thing.  It's a teenager thing.  Maybe I've just never really grown up!

Now I have to figure out how to get a ticket to the final concert in OKC on Jan. 19th, 2013!

Anybody know how I can sell a kidney?????

"But I Want To Cry!"

All who know me know I'm not much of a cryer.  I'm not saying I never cry, but it takes something pretty emotionally astounding to make it happen.  Or just sheer exhaustion can make it happen.

The last couple days Ruby hasn't felt good.  Her nose is stuffy and yet running.  She's sleepy.  Yesterday she was crying and I asked her why.  She looked at me with her little red eyes and said, "Because I want to cry, Aunt Red."

What do you do with that?  I just told her to go on ahead.

I haven't told my brother this because I'm a little afraid of his response, but I'm thinking she might be taking after her Aunt.  Not the one writing this post......but sister #3!  You all know who I am talking about!  Reckon making this prediction gonna get me in trouble???

I think we might have a little strawberry blonde drama queen in the making is what I am saying.  Oh well.  We wouldn't want "the drama" to skip a generation or anything like that!

The Natural

I have been down with a sinus infection for the past few days.  Friday night I watched a war movie.  Saturday I watched a war movie, but it was a different war.  Last night I couldn't sleep so it was Jane Austen's turn.  "Persuasion" did the trick.  I only made it half way through.

This morning I got up feeling groggy and sore from no sleep and coughing.  I made it to the recliner and turned on the tv.  On one of the weirdo channels I rarely watch "The Natural" was playing.  It had already started, but since I've seen it at least 45 times it didn't matter.  It was right at the part where Roy Hobbs struck out "The Whammer" on three pitches.  I couldn't change the channel.

I love baseball.  But I don't keep up with it like I use to.  There's just too much going on for me, but when playoff time rolls around I catch as many games as I can. This movie is the perfect one to get one in the mood for fall baseball!!

The wardrobe is amazing.  The characters are interesting.  The music is unbelievable!  Robert Redford couldn't have been more perfect for the role of the aging ball player.  When I say I seen it 45 times it could be a low guess.  It came out in 1984.  I purchased the vhs tape probably in 1986 or so.  I can't bring myself to part with it.

When Roy steps up to the plate that last time I sit there wondering if he's gonna strike out again.  He's bleeding.....he's weak.....he's using a different bat for crying in a bucket!  He swings.....he connects......the ball hits the lights!   I get chills and choke up every time!!!  And then he rounds the bases to the cheers of the crowd and his teammates and me!  I love this movie!!!!!

And so the question of the day..........Where's my Roy Hobbs?????

Superman

My Dad had back surgery on Monday morning.  It wasn't suppose to be a big thing.  They just took out a chip that had been floating around inside a disc and they shaved off the bulging part of the disc.  Dad was suppose to stay overnight in the hospital then come home.  He didn't stay overnight.  They got the perscriptions for the pain meds filled.  He never even took a Tylenol.  He said he had no pain.

He was suppose to take it easy for a couple weeks.  No driving, bending, lifting, etc.  On Wedneday he called the dr.'s office to see if he could drive.  He needed to haul some dirt for the driveway he's working on here at the place.  The dr. said it was fine since he wasn't on the pain meds.

That evening I needed to unload feed.  He said he wouldn't try that because he knew he shouldn't.  I left and went to the barn.  Next thing I know he's down there wanting his turn with the scoop.  What am I suppose to do.  I wasn't very happy about it, but it didn't seem to bother him at all.

This is also the man who jumped from a runaway wagon just like they do in the movies.  And it wasn't even filmed!  The team of mules got spooked by a four wheeler out on the set and took off.  Dad thought the guy driving was bailing too, but he didn't.  Dad was fine.

Maybe he is Superman!

Straws

I'm a person who loves a good straw!  Sonic has the best.  Not too fat.....not too skinny.  And they have the extra long ones for the large cup.  We have straws everywhere.  There is a glass with a photo of John Wayne that is the straw holder at my folks house.  At my house the straws are kept in a John Deere straw holder.  I bet Mr. Deere never thought about his tractor logo being on a straw holder.

Evidently this love of straws has been passed down to the next generation.  And the uses of these handy little items are not just for drinking DP!

A couple weeks ago on a Sunday the family gathered at our favorite spot for Mexican food here in town.  I looked across the table and Jessie Jane had the straw out of her Sprite and was using it to down her cheese sauce!  She acted like it was the most normal thing ever.

Last week sis#2 and kids were here.  Mamaw got a little watermelon at the store.  Snort immediately had to have some!  While he was eating his watermelon at the kids table in the kitchen he said he wanted a straw.  Well.....he doesn't really talk, but he points and grunts really well.  His mom handed him a straw.  He stuck it down in the watermelon to drink the juice.

I think these kids are so smart!  I mean what grown up would've ever thought of either of these uses for a straw?  I might try the watermelon thing sometime.

But the cheese sauce......well......I think I'll just stick with tortilla chips!

Little Joe's Birthday......Belated

I didn't get to write about Little Joe's birthday.  It was last Saturday and he turned 8.  I just can't believe he's 8.

Little Joe is quite the kid and quite the cowboy.   He can ride his horse Doodlebug really well.  I called him Saturday morning to wish him a happy birthday.  He was watering his calf.  There's always chores to do!

And, he is also a good actor.  I don't want to spoil anything, but Little Joe has several parts in the new movie.

So.....Happy Belated Birthday Little Joe!!!

I love ya and miss ya!!!!!!!!!!

Rosy's Firsts

Rosy has a tooth!  She's not very good about letting me look in there, but one day last week when I was feeding her I could see a little white line on her bottom gum.  I stuck my finger in there and sure enough......it finally broke through!  I can't believe she is 9 months now!!!  And she is trying so hard to walk.  I think she'll be up and running  by her first birthday!!

And......Rosy had her acting debut last Friday.  Of course she was wonderful.   It was time for Ruby and Rosy to have their big scene in "Treasure in Oklahoma".  Thankfully, it was a cooler day than we have been having.  Ruby and I have been rehearsing the song she was to sing for weeks.  We all knew that with a 2 1/2 year old we needed to be prepared to get what we could.

Ruby wouldn't sing, but she did perfect anyway and she looked so pretty!   And little Rosy was so stinkin adorable.  I wish I could post a photo here so you could see!  She was sitting in a baby buggy my great-grandfather used in his clown acts back in the day.  He rigged up a special handle so his mule could push the buggy around.  We aren't exactly sure if this is the same buggy he took to England back in 1953 to perform with Tex Ritter's show.  We need to do a little more research in the massive photo boxes at my grandma's house.  There is a sticker on one of the wheels that say's it came through the train station in Westville, OK.  But that could be from anytime.

Anyway, maybe the film will be done sometime this year and you all will get to see all my nephews and nieces.  They are all such talented kids.

What would you expect me to say????

Living in the Desert

I thought I was living in Oklahoma, but the way things are these days it's feeling a lot like Death Valley!

Yesterday we broke a record....again.....for the highest temp since 1980 with a whopping 113.  It was 115 in Kingfisher which is about 25 miles west of here.  The weather report at 5pm showed a map of the country with all the temps.  Our state was the hottest in the whole country!

What's that about?  How can this happen?

Back in 1993 my dad and brother was working out in Tucson, AZ during the summer.  We(all the females in the fam.) took a trip out there to visit for a week in July.  One morning we walked out of the hotel at about 5am and the air was so hot I felt suffocated.  I said then I would never live where it was that hot.

Never say never!!!

Happy Birthday Woody!

Yesterday was my nephew's birthday.  He was on a plane an in airports for most of the day and Ididn't get to talk to him.  He turned 6.

What year did I turn 6?  Let me think......it might take a minute.....it was......19?????

Woody is the sweetest, kindest, funniest, and the most ornery of all the nephews!  He has always had a sense of humor.  I never really thought about kids having a sense of humor but they can.  When Woody grows up he's going to be the kind of man who gets his wife flowers and tells her she's pretty at the least obvious time.  That's just how he is.

So...HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY WOODY!

I LOVE YA!!!!

Olympics Fever

How many of you are watching as much of the 2012 Olympics as you can cram into a 24 hour day???

It all started last Friday night with the opening ceremonies.  I thought it was beautiful.  And.......I also thought it was a production so huge that the thought of having anything to do with it makes me shake!

I was sickly over the weekend and found myself watching sports that I wouldn't ever otherwise watch like rowing.  I'm not sure they even call it that.  But it is amazing to see anyone, much less 4 or 6 people, rowing so perfectly to keep that narrow little boat(is it a boat?) upright.  Just ask my friend Sage about my lone canoeing experience.  I don't believe rowing with others in a skinny little boat is in my future!

And I get all wrapped up in events like synchronized diving.  Why would anyone jump off a platform so high in the air into a pool of water and try to keep in time with another person doing tricks while falling?  These things puzzle me.

They haven't even started any of the track and field events yet.  Can't wait for those!

All I know is that I am amazed at what the human body can do.  I am amazed at the enormous talent that is displayed in each sport.  I am amazed that none of the female gymnasts on the gold winning USA team remember an Olympics before 2004!

I think I'll go have a donut and watch some more beach volleyball now!!!

Flush Ahoy!

This could be an inappropriate post.  I'm not sure.  But it happened to me this morning and I'm somewhat traumatized!

Here's what happened.

I got to brother's house this morning at the usual time.  Sis-in-law left for work and the girls were still asleep.  I needed to use the restroom.  No big deal.  However, when I opened the lid on the toilet I just about freaked and that is an understatement!

There was a mouse floating in the water!  No joke!!!  Once I could breath again I thought, "What do I do?"
Is it ok to flush?  Am I suppose to fish this thing out?  Not hardly!!!

I made a phone call to my sis-in-law and asked if there was a new mouse disposal system in place.  She said the critter wasn't there last night.  Her question was the same as mine.....can the thing be flushed?  She said she'd call her husband, my brother and the knower of all things flushable.

Soon I get a call from brother and got the go ahead to flush.  I'm guessing that with it being so dry around here the little thing was just looking for a drink.  TOO BAD!!!!!

I'm writing about this to help others.  If you ever find yourself in this situation......just remember.......

FLUSH AHOY!!!

P.S.  This is what Ruby says when she flushes the toilet these days.  I have no idea where she got that....hehehehe.

A Child's Mind

I haven't spoken much about Jessie Jane lately.  She is growing so much and is so full of life.  Every time I see her she makes me laugh!

I always take it for granted that children understand who the people are around them.  It surprises me everytime one of the kids say something like "You're are my mom's sister?"

Saturday I was with Jessie Jane.  Her dad had just gotten her a drink and I said that was was nice of him.

She said, "Yes, I love my Dad!"

I replied, "I love my Dad too."

She said, " You have a Dad?"

My reply, "Papa is my Dad and MaMaw is my mom."

She said, "Nuh Uh!" and had the most puzzled look on her face!

It might take a year or two for that to sink in!!!

The Beacon Drive-In Theater

The nephews are in town.  Little Joe is even here this time.  They have been working on the blockbuster "Treasure in Oklahoma" off and on for a few weeks now.  Lucky for us the heat wave is on!

We have a part of Oklahoma History still working here in our town.  It's the Beacon Drive-In Theater.  I haven't been there in years and years.  I think "The Muppets Take Manhattan" was our last movie seen at this great place.  For a couple years we've wanted to take the kids and it just hasn't worked out.  It finally did.  We thought the boys could use a break from the strenuous shooting schedule.  So...... Little Joe, Woody, and Buzz had their first trip to a drive-in and Hoss his second.

I just have to say that it was a fun and enjoyable evening!  We got there a little too early.  Which, if you don't know how kids work, means there was plenty of fighting, arguing, and crying until 9pm when the movie started. But after then it was great.  The atmosphere was fun.  There was a nice breeze that kept it comfortable.  And we could talk between us without fearing being kicked out like happens so often when we go to the movie!

Before "Madagascar 3" started there were kids out on the grass in front of the screen playing ball  I thought to myself that there has been thousands of kids do that very same thing in the very same spot for decades.  Hoss said, "There are kids playing over there."  I said kinda grumpily, "Don't ask to go over there!"  He said, "Why not?"  I said rather grumpily again, "Because in 2 seconds y'all will be fighting and crying!"  They couldn't argue with that because they knew it was true!

We found out that the drive-in is for sale.  Anyone got a million bucks I could borrow???

A Morning at the Park

A couple mornings ago Ruby, Rosy, and I went to the park.  We tried to beat the heat and left the house at 8:30.  We were the only ones there except for a minivan with an older man inside who I think might be living there.  Just speculation.

Mineral Wells park here in town is wonderful.  Most of it is in the shade for the whole day.  This park holds a lot of history in our town back to pre-statehood.  It was the sight for the first "Bedlam" game back in 1890something.  I'm bad with these dates.

Ruby swung for a long time, she played on the little slide and the wavy medium slide.  But then she decided she wanted to go down the spiral slide.  It's not real tall to a grown up, but I imagine to a 2 1/2 year old it looks huge!  She's been down it before, but one of the cousins was there to go down with her.  I think she only remembered she'd been down it before because once she got seated and just about let go she locked up!  Then she was saying, "Red!  Hold my hand!  Red!  Come up here! Red!!!"

It was too tall for her to reach my hand.  And she wouldn't back up for nothing.  I went to see if I could go up the back way, but there was this tunnel I wasn't sure I could get through.  Gotta love that!  I went back to the slide and tried to coax her down again.  Not happening!  So, I kicked off the flops and climbed up the slide.  I got close enough that she would let go and we slid down.  She wanted to go back up.  Not hardly!

I'm sure Mr. Minivan and Rosy loved that show!!!

It's Movie Time

Anyone remember last summer when my nephews, nieces, dad and sis#2 made a movie?

Well......they are making another!  They started filming yesterday.  Last year's movie was titled "Treasure in Texas".  This time around the boys are searching for "Treasure in Oklahoma".

Rosy will be added to the cast this year.  And.......now I hear Rosy talking from her crib!  I'm sure she's rehearsing her lines.

Rosy Is On The Move

Rosy is now 7 months old.  I can't believe it!  Seems like just the other night we were headed to the hospital for her to be born.

The time has come for her to crawl.  And I mean this baby is a mover!  She's long for her age and not a chubby baby, so she doesn't get high centered like her cousins use to.  It's so much fun to see her play.  A few days ago she hit her head on the coffee table trying to crawl under it.  Next thing I knew she had gotten under the table and was sitting up.  She was proud of herself.

And, her hair is growing in like crazy.  And.....it's not very red.  I think she's gonna be strawberry blonde like her sister.  Oh well.  We'll keep her anyway!

It's Been 30 Days!

I haven't been here in a while.  Actually, I've been here and thought about writing, but then a baby cries, or the connection isn't good, or I just didn't feel it that day.  And a lot has happened in 30 days.

Something happened last week that has me very unnverved!  To make a long story short......I saw a person outside of my house at 11pm one night.  That's never happened before.  For a girl who has never, and I mean never, lived in a house where a key was used to get in the door it's a big deal!

The strange thing is I am now spending more time in my own house!  I think it's because I don't want to have to go there in the dark, and if I'm already in there with the doors locked and the curtains closed when it turns dark it's all ok.

So......No more late night trips to and from my folks or grandma's house without a flashlight and pistol. No more sending one of the nephews to go get something from their house to the north they forgot.  Basically, no more life as we knew it before last Thursday night at 11pm.  Oh well.

On a way better note, nephew Snort made a scene yesterday morning during worship services.  Apparently, when the collection plate came by he put in his dollar, but before it got to the end of the pew and handed to the man at the end he also put in a baby wipe.  My sister snatched the wipe out before he walked away.  There were a few chuckles around and Snort had no idea why!!!

Runaway Money

Last Friday I had quite the "episode".  Most of it was my own fault so I can't blame anyone but myself!  This isn't the first time this has happened.  One should learn from their own mistakes!!!

That morning I checked my bank account online to see what had come through.  I had forgotten about a check I'd written and was concerned it might be "hot".  All was ok.  Then late in the afternoon I thought I should check again.  Guess what?  It did.  I was in the negative.  Stupid thing is that I had money in my purse that would more than cover it.....and had I remembered the ol' check I would've dropped by and made a deposit.

I knew from past experience that if I get a deposit in before about 4 there would be no insufficient charge made.  When I found out at about 3:25 that I was in the hole I had a little panic attack.  Ruby was still napping and I wasn't sure I could make it anyway.  Well, Ruby woke up about 5 minutes later.  I ran around like the headless chicken, took the back roads, and made it to the bank with about 4 minutes to spare.

Here's where things went ugly.

I put the $100 bill in the drawer at the drive through window and told the teller to deposit.  In a second the bill flew out of the drawer.  I said, "Oh no!"  I got out and looked under the truck.  Nothing.  The teller came out and we looked around.  Nothing.  She said she'd go inside and get some other girls to look.  She said it happens all the time and they are good at finding things that blow out.  I haven't mentioned that the wind was blowing about 30 miles an hour at least this day.  I pulled up and parked.  Got out of the truck with Ruby and Rosy in tow, and we went to looking.  Nothing.  They all went straight to the area where they usually find bills and checks.  Nothing.

About 20 minutes goes by and my arms are getting very jelloey from hauling Rosy.  I was ready to call it quits and come back later.  There were probably 6 people looking when all of a sudden I hear "I found it!"  I would've jumped up and down if I could've.

I guess the girl who found it, who I didn't even see out there, is the finder of the group.  She's worked there for years.  I told her to keep it with her and I'd drive back around to the window.

The thing is this......I never have $100 bills!  I kept thinking to myself that I should've gone shopping the night before.  At least I would've had something to show for it.

And here's the lesson, or maybe there are two.  Don't forget to write down your checks.  Lesson #2......Always, and I mean always......put the bill/check/whatever under the little holder thing!!!!!!!!

I'm exhausted.  I think I'll go lie down!

Rosy's First Gig and Ruby's Roping

A week ago the newest performer of the clan had her first gig.  Actually, she had 2 gigs in one day.  Quite a workout for a 5 month old!

Brother, Ruby, Rosy, and I performed the mini version of the family trick roping act for the 89er celebration at a couple schools in Edmond.  The roping part was easy.....getting there was the tough part.  At least for me.

My job wasn't only to perform, but I was responsible for getting the girls and myself there....ALONE....and in one piece!  It actually went ok.  I only got about a half a mile from the house when I realized I forgot Rosy's bottle.  That wasn't bad!  I was just glad I had both the girls' with me.

Rosy acted like she'd roped in front of  a crowd of  screaming 4th graders forever!  She just looked up and took it all in.   Ruby didn't do too bad either.  She's getting the hang of this roping thing.  Matter of fact, she's taken after her dad and decided to rope anything that moves.

I'll explain.

We were outside the other day just wandering around.  That's what we do in the afternoons.  She saw a big ol' black bug and mumbled something about catching the bug at least that's what I thought.  Sometimes I get the language wrong.  I told her we didn't need to catch the bug.  She had a stick and was swinging it up in the air.  I wasn't sure what she was doing.  Then I understood her when she said again, "I'm gonna rope the bug!"

I think we are in big trouble!!!

Freaks in the Fraidie Hole

It's tornado season.  It has been 30 plus years since we've had a tornado come across our place.  We hadn't even moved up here yet.  It was just my grandparents and great grandparents who went down into the basement.  And they made it in just before it hit.  Thankfully, their house received minor damage.

Now....fast forward to 2012.  We are still heading to the same basement even though it is moldy.  Not good!

Friday night I received a text at about 2:30 am from my brother-in-law(who has a weather radio) saying turn on the tv and call mom and dad.  So.....the circus began.

I woke dad up, got a call from a friend, and got dressed all in about 4 minutes.  It was lightning and raining.  I then got in my pickup and headed to get sis#3 and kids.  I noticed my aunt and uncle were still at home which is odd for them to not already be at Grandma's.  I called them too.  Aunt said they were fixin to head out.

Off we went.  We pretty much went straight to the basement.  Mom was armed with a mask since the last time we had to go down she was sick before we made it out.  While we were sitting down there amongst the canning jars, old coffee pots, and some water, we all chattered about what was going on.  Dad came downstairs to see how we were doing wearing his normal clothes, mud boots, black hat, gun belt, and carrying his bible and an umbrella.  Of course, he had been outside watching the dark sky.  He never packs a gun unless he's headed out to shoot a sick horse.  I asked him if  he was planning on shooting us outta there if the house fell on top of the basement door!  Sister said he was armed for anything!

About that time is when my Mom came up with the statement of the night and possibly the year!

"We're just a bunch of freaks in a fraidie hole!"

That bout sums it all up!

Easter Fun

We had a big day yesterday!  5 of the 6 nephews were present as well as all 3 nieces.  By the time everyone got home from worship services and ate lunch it was probably 4ish when we got to the egg hunting.  Egg hunting isn't what it use to be!

This generation in my family doesn't hunt the hard boiled eggs colored the night before.  This group of kids hunt plastic eggs with toys, candy, and money inside.   I imagine it is the way with most families these days.  As sis #2 and I were filling these plastic things at about 1am Sat. night I made a rash statement.  I said, "No wonder all the kids in our family are spoiled rotten!  They need to be hunting the eggs they colored til the shells are cracked and falling off then go inside several hours later and make deviled eggs!"

Nobody got sick.  Nobody died.  And we sure didn't get prizes!  She just thought I was cranky(per usual) and said the kids would remember it forever.  I doubt it.

We had about 12 eggs that were so cracked they didn't make the dye cups.  Snort, who is 2, was dropping those poor things into the dye like a bomb from a B-24!  No kidding.  Funny how the smell never changes either.  I'm guessing it's the vinegar.  But combined with the eggs it has a little different whang to it.

I hope you all  had a fun day too!

Baby Talk

Rosy is almost 5 months old now.  She's grown so much and changed so much.  To my dismay most of her red hair is gone and a lighter fuzz is growing in it's place.  I'm still holding onto a little hope she'll be a real redhead when it all grows back.

One thing that is so much fun is listening to her talk.  She just rambles on and on in that sweet little baby voice!  Sounds like someone we all know(minus the baby voice!).   Even with the pacifier in her mouth she can talk a blue streak.   I wonder what she's saying and thinking.

Maybe it's, "Who's this weird lady who comes here every day?"  Or possibly, "I wish this crazy woman would just talk to me like a person instead of a puppy!"

Well, I know it's just a matter of time until she's telling me "NO" and "Go Away" like her 2 year old sister does right now.

I think I'll just enjoy this time while it lasts!!!!

I'm Not Moving

Well....not yet anyway!

I thought I'd try to move this blog to another server.  Couldn't get it done.  Not enough spare time to figure it out.  Not enough drive to make spare time to figure it out.  I'm just gonna stick with what I know for now.

Lot's has happened since I made my exit from here a while back.  And yet, nothing has happened at all.  I know, that doesn't make a lick of sense!

And I have a message for Mr. Shane.......Thanks a million for getting that song in my head!!!  You know what I'm talking about, and it just happens to be one of my favorites!  Though, I just don't know that Ruby and Rosy want to hear it all day!!  Thanks for hanging with me during my absence.  You are a nice boy!

Ok, I'm back.  More to come later.

Moving

This is the only moving I'll ever be doing, so it's gonna be complicated!

I'm in the process of moving this blog.  I'll let y'all know when it's finished.

And I'm hoping to start posting photos.  No promises there!!!

Adventures in Babysitting

I've never seen that movie.  But, when I was thinking about the Monday I had this week that title is all that came to mind!  It was pretty quiet all morning.  Nothing major happened, but just a ring of the doorbell can change everything.

I had just gotten Ruby down for her nap a few minutes before, but it took about 30 of singing, patting, and rocking to get her there.  Rosie had been down for a little while already.

When the doorbell rang I was startled since it rarely happens.  I could see through the window it was a high school or college age girl.  So I opened it up.  She says, "Your horse has his leg over the fence."

My reply, "OH GREAT!"

She went on to say he was just standing there and nothing looked bad.  However, wasn't gonna get out by himself.  I told her thanks and called my brother directly.   Brother said just put the girls in the pickup with me, get the fence pliers out of the shop and go cut the horse out.  I told him Ruby had just gone down for a nap and Rosie was still sleeping.  He said just go down and cut him out, the girls would be fine.  Against my better judgment I did as I was told.

I literally ran out of the house to the shop, grabbed a halter and the fence pliers, and ran as fast as my 42 year old body would go.  Thankfully, Chili(the horse) didn't freak out when he saw a weirdo red headed crazy lady running his way!!!

Sure enough, the goober had gotten his left front leg over the top of the hog wire fence under a top strand of barb wire.  Then at the bottom his foot was back through a couple of those squares.  I started cutting at the bottom.  It didn't take long.  Thankfully, Chili never moved.  I kinda patched the fence back up and headed back to the house.  I stepped in the back door and heard quiet.  They never knew I was gone!!

FYI.....that is no kind of fence for horses.  It was there when brother and fam moved there.  I believe it is set to be replaced as soon as possible.  Meanwhile, brother and I put up panels down the fence line.  Other than he trying to throw a panel on top of me and bruising up my arm it all went fine.  Funny how I can go cut the horse out of the fence alone and not get hurt.  Then I try to help my brother and he tries to take me out!

I think I need workman's comp insurance for babysitting!!!!!!

Wonderful Sunrise

What I've noticed in my time as "the nanny" is that I don't like leaving my house in the dark every morning!  i especially don't like leaving in the dark and getting home in the dark!!!  I only had to do this at my previous job a few times a year.  My mother has done it for years.  People all over the world have done it for years.  I guess I'm lucky to only have had to do this a couple months so far!

This morning I noticed small amount of orange peeking above the horizon when I started the pickup.  It was lovely!  I didn't realize how much I missed seeing the sun in the morning.

I'm more of a sunset and moon person to tell the truth.  I think it has something to do with being a night owl.  I seem to get a second wind at about 9pm.  Even when I get into bed by 10 I usually lay there for at least an hour reading and trying to wind down.

So.....longer days and more sunshine are ahead. Woohoo!!!

3 Weeks Anniversary

I'm sure y'all are sick and tired of hearing me talk about Dr Pepper.  Sorry!  It's a big part of my life.  How pathetic is that????

I've been without a high fructose corn syrup DP for 3 weeks now.  No Large DP with easy ice from Sonic's happy hour.  No DP for breakfast.  No "I'm so stressed I need a DP" I don't care how much it costs.

However,  I did have a bottle of the Dublin DP variety.  And I did have a fountain Dublin DP at Pops supervised by my folks.

I don't think that counts!

So.....I'm continuing on this journey.  I've made it to the 21 day habit forming point before......but not beyond.  This will be new territory.

Will this mean I won't hang onto the steering wheel with death grip and white knuckles every time I drive past Sonic?

I CERTAINLY HOPE SO!!!!!!!!!!!

Rough Day

I knew it was coming!  That's just reality.  It was January 17th.  I won't forget it anytime soon.

Rosi had a rough day!  Therefore, Aunt Red had a rough day!

It started with her first bottle at about 9:45 when I could only get her to drink an ounce of milk.  Crying soon followed and it just snowballed from there.  I finally decided she had a tummy ache.  That was at about 1:30.  She needed a warm pack on her tummy.  Oh my!  What a difference.   All I could think was, "Hello Stupid!  Why didn't you do that sooner!!!"   She went to sleep and ate and slept again.

It was after 3 when Ruby finally went down for her nap.  That's about 1 hour too late.  Who knew I could be on a schedule??

By the time my sis-in-law got home at 4:30 I was fried.......as in toasted.........stick a fork in me I'm done!!!

I lived to babysit another day.  It was touch and go there for a while, but I survived somehow. What doesn't kill you makes you stronger....right?

God just showed me why I'm not a mom.  I can't handle the truth!!!!!!

8 Days and Counting

I haven't had a Dr Pepper since January 2nd.

It has been easier than I thought, but every so often I just want to drive straight to Sonic and order up my favorite......Large Dr Pepper w/easy ice!!  The girls at my Sonic know the drill.  I bet they are wondering what happened to me!  Should I go tell them I'm not mad at them I'm just trying to live a year or two longer?

I bet they don't really care!  They just miss my money!!!!!!!

"Persuasion"

Last Friday night three dear friends came over for supper, cake, and a movie. Oh, and we talked a LOT!

The friends brought an amazing cake.  Can't remember the name, but it was chocolate with crunchy  peppermint and a whipped cream/white chocolate frosting between the layers.  OH MY LANDS!!!  Talk about yummy!  We only ate some supper so we didn't pass out from all the sugar.

After supper and talking we had the enormous task of picking a movie to watch.  Since I couldn't find the new movie I wanted to watch at Wal-Mart, we just sifted through the piles of dvd's and vhs tapes I have in my collection.  We narrowed the field down to the newest version of "Jane Eyre"  and an older version of  "Persuasion".

"Persuasion" was the choice.  I've read the Jane Austen book.  I've seen this movie several times, but it always seems new to me.  I do remember, however, that I love this movie!  I know it's only a movie and a work of fiction of a woman who lived over a hundred years ago, but there's just something about it that hits home.

It could be the homely lead character Ann!  Where's my Captain Wentworth???

HAHA

Day 2 and 3

I'm not going to continually blog about my daily happenings with Ruby and Rosy, but I was asked for an update.  Here it is...........So far so good!!!

How's that for excitement?  We are fixin to head outside since it is a whopping 65 degrees.  That could change everything!!

Probably the next big thing will be when I venture to town alone.  I've not worked up the courage for that one yet!!

HAPPY 2012!

I don't know if anyone else did this, and maybe it's a girl thing, but when my sisters and I were little we would figure out how old we'd be in the future.  Of course we thought it would never happen it was so far away.  But I distinctly remember figuring how old I would be in 2012.  It seemed way better then than now!!

My first day taking care of 2 nieces instead of 1 went smashingly well.  That probably means day #2 will not.  But that's OK.  As long as there is a smashingly good day here and there I'll be OK.

And, January 2nd found me starting a new thing in my life.  Call it a resolution.  Call it desperation.  Call it a move to get healthy and lose weight.  I'm calling it torture!  OK, here it is, no Dr Pepper for Aunt Red!  Now, that doesn't mean I'll never drink again(hehe), but it means I'm on the wagon indefinitely.

I haven't had the shakes or seen the little green monkeys yet.  Maybe that's coming.  But I have noticed there's not been as much inflammation in my hands when I get up in the morning.  It's only been 3 days, but maybe it's already working.  So.....I'm drinking water and tea.  I've done this before, but I only made 3 weeks.  Then, for whatever reason, I had a taste of that lovely sweet concoction that I love and I was back to addictive behavior.

And I'm pretty sure I will not ever, and I mean EVER try to figure out how old I'll be in 2032.  Yikes!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
