Congratulations to Tera!

Most of you who read this know Tera.  But, if you don't know, Tera has been studying interior design and finished the course with flying colors.  Woohoo!

Tera and I have known each other forever it seems.  She and my youngest sister(#4) are the same age.  Tera was the maid of honor at her wedding 11 years ago.

I just have to say that Tera is one of the best people I know.  She is kind, sweet, talented, and strives every day to be the person God wants her to be.  I don't know anyone who has anything bad to say about her.

Congratulations Tera!!!  I love ya!!!!

And........anytime you feel the need to practice your interior design skills just head on over to my place!  hehehaha

Some Sad News

Well, I'm sure most of you will not think this is sad in the least.  And.....when I really stop and think about it it's not SAD, just a little sad.

George Strait is winding down his career.  The press conference was held yesterday.  He announced 2 more years of touring which will consist of 20 dates each year.  He said he will continue to make records.  That is really what I was wanting.  I don't get to concerts much anyway so that part doesn't affect me much.   I told my sister the night before the press conference that I didn't care if he never toured again, but I'd like to hear new music from George for a little while longer.  I've known this was coming.  It's just reality!

The press conference was streamed live from the Country Music Hall of Fame.  I set the alarm on my phone so I wouldn't forget.  I got to the website where they were playing some "vintage" George while the preparations were being made.  I felt sick to my stomach and felt like I was going to cry.  I sent a text to my sis-in-law and told her Ruby and I were perched by the computer waiting for George to talk.  She replied that she was felt sick to her stomach.  At least I wasn't the only one!

So, by the time the actual announcement came around, Ruby and Rosy were running around like little banchees throwing toys everywhere and screaming their sweet little heads off!  I just tried to ignore it and make sure neither of them got hurt.  When George said he wasn't really "retiring" just yet I felt like jumping up and down!  He said he'd go on making records til he didn't want to anymore.  Like I said before......I'm good with that!

Please don't judge me.  Please don't think I'm toooooo rediculous.  Please just let me have this moment.  George Strait doesn't know me and never will.  But his music has meant a lot to me since I was 12.  It's a longevity thing.  It's a teenager thing.  Maybe I've just never really grown up!

Now I have to figure out how to get a ticket to the final concert in OKC on Jan. 19th, 2013!

Anybody know how I can sell a kidney?????

"But I Want To Cry!"

All who know me know I'm not much of a cryer.  I'm not saying I never cry, but it takes something pretty emotionally astounding to make it happen.  Or just sheer exhaustion can make it happen.

The last couple days Ruby hasn't felt good.  Her nose is stuffy and yet running.  She's sleepy.  Yesterday she was crying and I asked her why.  She looked at me with her little red eyes and said, "Because I want to cry, Aunt Red."

What do you do with that?  I just told her to go on ahead.

I haven't told my brother this because I'm a little afraid of his response, but I'm thinking she might be taking after her Aunt.  Not the one writing this post......but sister #3!  You all know who I am talking about!  Reckon making this prediction gonna get me in trouble???

I think we might have a little strawberry blonde drama queen in the making is what I am saying.  Oh well.  We wouldn't want "the drama" to skip a generation or anything like that!

The Natural

I have been down with a sinus infection for the past few days.  Friday night I watched a war movie.  Saturday I watched a war movie, but it was a different war.  Last night I couldn't sleep so it was Jane Austen's turn.  "Persuasion" did the trick.  I only made it half way through.

This morning I got up feeling groggy and sore from no sleep and coughing.  I made it to the recliner and turned on the tv.  On one of the weirdo channels I rarely watch "The Natural" was playing.  It had already started, but since I've seen it at least 45 times it didn't matter.  It was right at the part where Roy Hobbs struck out "The Whammer" on three pitches.  I couldn't change the channel.

I love baseball.  But I don't keep up with it like I use to.  There's just too much going on for me, but when playoff time rolls around I catch as many games as I can. This movie is the perfect one to get one in the mood for fall baseball!!

The wardrobe is amazing.  The characters are interesting.  The music is unbelievable!  Robert Redford couldn't have been more perfect for the role of the aging ball player.  When I say I seen it 45 times it could be a low guess.  It came out in 1984.  I purchased the vhs tape probably in 1986 or so.  I can't bring myself to part with it.

When Roy steps up to the plate that last time I sit there wondering if he's gonna strike out again.  He's bleeding.....he's weak.....he's using a different bat for crying in a bucket!  He swings.....he connects......the ball hits the lights!   I get chills and choke up every time!!!  And then he rounds the bases to the cheers of the crowd and his teammates and me!  I love this movie!!!!!

And so the question of the day..........Where's my Roy Hobbs?????

Superman

My Dad had back surgery on Monday morning.  It wasn't suppose to be a big thing.  They just took out a chip that had been floating around inside a disc and they shaved off the bulging part of the disc.  Dad was suppose to stay overnight in the hospital then come home.  He didn't stay overnight.  They got the perscriptions for the pain meds filled.  He never even took a Tylenol.  He said he had no pain.

He was suppose to take it easy for a couple weeks.  No driving, bending, lifting, etc.  On Wedneday he called the dr.'s office to see if he could drive.  He needed to haul some dirt for the driveway he's working on here at the place.  The dr. said it was fine since he wasn't on the pain meds.

That evening I needed to unload feed.  He said he wouldn't try that because he knew he shouldn't.  I left and went to the barn.  Next thing I know he's down there wanting his turn with the scoop.  What am I suppose to do.  I wasn't very happy about it, but it didn't seem to bother him at all.

This is also the man who jumped from a runaway wagon just like they do in the movies.  And it wasn't even filmed!  The team of mules got spooked by a four wheeler out on the set and took off.  Dad thought the guy driving was bailing too, but he didn't.  Dad was fine.

Maybe he is Superman!

Straws

I'm a person who loves a good straw!  Sonic has the best.  Not too fat.....not too skinny.  And they have the extra long ones for the large cup.  We have straws everywhere.  There is a glass with a photo of John Wayne that is the straw holder at my folks house.  At my house the straws are kept in a John Deere straw holder.  I bet Mr. Deere never thought about his tractor logo being on a straw holder.

Evidently this love of straws has been passed down to the next generation.  And the uses of these handy little items are not just for drinking DP!

A couple weeks ago on a Sunday the family gathered at our favorite spot for Mexican food here in town.  I looked across the table and Jessie Jane had the straw out of her Sprite and was using it to down her cheese sauce!  She acted like it was the most normal thing ever.

Last week sis#2 and kids were here.  Mamaw got a little watermelon at the store.  Snort immediately had to have some!  While he was eating his watermelon at the kids table in the kitchen he said he wanted a straw.  Well.....he doesn't really talk, but he points and grunts really well.  His mom handed him a straw.  He stuck it down in the watermelon to drink the juice.

I think these kids are so smart!  I mean what grown up would've ever thought of either of these uses for a straw?  I might try the watermelon thing sometime.

But the cheese sauce......well......I think I'll just stick with tortilla chips!
